Janet Aaker Smith’s Expertise Janet has worked in the field of education and training for over 30 years. She is an accomplished K-12 teacher and presenter both nationally and internationally as well as a talented author of over 11 educational publications. Most recently, Janet has been providing professional development to individual schools and school districts across the country. She shares her passion of teaching with teachers, parents and students by providing practical strategies to increase student achievement. Janet has been described as a motivating, enthusiastic and fun presenter. Janet spent 13 years in Australia teaching and consulting for The University of Melbourne and Deakin University as well as developing programs for each, such as, Bright Sparks, Engaging Classrooms, and Middle Years of Schooling. While in Australia, Janet also worked with the Department of Education assisting in the development and implementation of gifted and talented statewide policy. In addition, Janet was Vice President of the Victorian Association for Gifted and Talented Children. In 2006 Janet helped create a school for special needs children in Kuwait. Janet is a much sought-after presenter for state and national conferences because of her passion for teaching and learning and her practical ideas to engage all students in learning. WOW Janet learned early in life in Texas that if you made good grades & were polite you could get away with otherwise outrageous behavior. She continued this pattern when she put herself through college while raising two children. For example, Janet studied for her Master's finals while parasailing in Puerto Vallarta. While pursuing her educational goals she worked at a Parks&Rec Dept, title company & even a baseball batting cage facility. In 1989, Janet followed her pilot husband to Australia. Modern pioneers, they started over. In 2002, Janet headed back to Texas. Janet’s passion is teaching & learning; her loves are her husband, 2 grown children, 3 grandsons & her dogs.
